DIABETES & THE EYE 2002 SYMPOSIUM PRESIDENT’S DAY WEEKEND (February 16-18) AT ANNENBERG CENTER FOR HEALTH SCIENCES - RANCHO MIRAGE, CALIFORNIA

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. February 4, 2002 - The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences will host “Diabetes and the Eye 2002,” a symposium designed for professionals involved in diabetes care. Leading eye-care experts will discuss how diabetes causes eye disease and what treatments are available for these conditions, including promising new pharmacological interventions.

“The effects of diabetes on the eye can be devastating, however, the treatment options that are currently available and those on the horizon offer hope to patients suffering from these complications,” said symposium director J. Sebag MD, FACS, FRCOphth of Huntington Beach, Calif. “It’s our job to educate practitioners and patients about these options and this symposium presents a unique opportunity to reach out and make a difference.”

The agenda covers a broad range of topics that address the multiple issues related to the treatment and medical management of diabetic eye disease. The latest advances in laser therapy, microsurgery, and pharmacologic therapies will be presented along with the community health education and medico-legal aspects of diabetes care. Participants of the symposium will have an opportunity to interact with a variety of specialists during lectures, exhibits and workshops.

The symposium will be held at the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences in Rancho Mirage, Calif., February 15 - 18, 2002.
