Joslin Diabetes Center’s Evening at the Boston Pops on Friday, May 14, To Benefit Kids with Diabetes

BOSTON, MA May 9, 2004--Joslin Diabetes Center will hold its 18th Annual Evening at Pops on Friday, May 14, at Boston's Symphony Hall to benefit Joslin's HIGH HOPES Fund for Kids with Diabetes.

The program, "By George!" conducted by Keith Lockhart of the Boston Pops Orchestra, will feature the work of George Gershwin. The concert will be preceded by a reception at 6 p.m. in the Cohen Wing at Symphony Hall. The performance begins at 8 p.m.

During the reception Joslin will honor Carole Bosman Goldberg, a member of the Joslin Board of Overseers, Lifetime Member of the Elliott P. Joslin Society, member of the Joslin Legacy Society and long-time supporter of Joslin. Carole established the Deborah Lynn Goldberg Endowment Fund in 1983 and has been on the Pops Committee for the past 18 years.

A HIGH HOPES Mystery Auction will provide entertainment at the reception. All attendees will be invited to purchase a $50 ticket for chance to unwrap a gift; each contains a ticket for a fun and exciting prize. This year, nearly $12,000 in gifts have been, graciously donated by a local restaurants, hotels or and individuals.

Established by the estate of Sammy Cahn, the songwriter who authored such well known hits as the Academy Award winning "High Hopes," The HIGH HOPES Fund is celebrating its 10 anniversary this year. HIGH HOPES has raised more than $4 million generates to support for Joslin’s clinical and research efforts in the battle against juvenile diabetes, one of the most common chronic diseases among children in the United States. In the last 30 years, type 1 has more than doubled and the likelihood of contracting it remains higher than virtually all other severe chronic childhood diseases.
